Education Architecture - High School Design
At Southern A&E, we recognize that many new school facilities must be built to accommodate the student body of the next decade, all the while working within the confines of today's budget. We believe that planning for the future growth is a basic part of initial facility planning. Our designers develop a campus plan that incorporates the knowledge that future expansion is a must. An overall campus plan can include future gymnasium, auditorium, stadium and/or classroom additions, all facilitated in the initial grading plan and can be built as funds become available. In high school design, creating core spaces such as lunchrooms and media centers to accommodate the expected future occupancy can save valuable education dollars by eliminating the need to expand those areas when additional space is required.
High school design is also about serving a student population with growing needs in technology and shared common areas. We seek to create a space that inspires learning, social development and ease of use by faculty and students alike. In addition, we work closely with our clients to address the security needs of their high school and incorporate many design innovations into the facility that will minimize the visual impact on all who use the space.
Some typical features of a Southern A&E high school design are:
- space allocated for vocational training and extracurricular activities
- wider hallways to ease traffic flow and enhance safety
- more sophisticated security and surveillance equipment
- increased capacity and multi-use function for student and faculty parking
- multi-use spaces
